Computer, Internet & Printing

We offer a range of free computer and Internet services, along with low-cost printing options, so you can connect, create, print, and access the tools you need — whether you’re working from home, studying, or simply exploring creativity.

Computer

Public Computer Lab

  • Public Computer Labs are now available at all library branches for those who have limited or no access to a computer, the internet, and/or printing.
  • Computer labs are open at all branches (drop in only) from 9:00am to 8:50pm Monday to Friday and on Saturdays & Sundays from 10:00am to 4:50pm.
  • Customers may use up to 180-minutes of computer access per day, system-wide. This will begin with one 45-minute session with the option of adding up to three 45 minute self-extensions, depending on computer availability.
  • Self-extensions will be offered automatically.
  • Please sign in with your library card.
  • The computer labs have been developed following WorkSafe BC guidelines to ensure safety of staff and customers.

Laptop Kiosk

  • Laptops are now available for in-library use at the Brighouse Library for those who wish to borrow laptop to browse the internet, and/or printing.
  • Laptop Kiosk is open at the Brighouse (drop in only) during posted operational hours up to 30 minutes before closing. Access to the service may also be limited during holiday hours.
  • Laptops can be borrowed for 3 hours per session. Customers need to return the laptop to the kiosk after your session to avoid replacement costs, $1,700.
  • Laptops are geo-tracked for security and must remain in the library at all times.
  • Self-extensions will not be offered.
  • Please check out the laptop from the kiosk with your library card.

  • Brighouse: 32 computers, 12 laptops, 3 scanners.
  • Ironwood: 14 computers, 1 scanner.
  • Cambie: 7 computers, 1 scanner.
  • Steveston: 6 computers, 1 scanner.

Internet

Free Wireless Internet (WiFi)
All library branches have free WiFi, just connect to “Richmond Public Library”. No password required.

 

Free Desktop Internet Access
Unfiltered internet access is also available through designated computer stations. Parents and guardians are responsible for their children’s use of the Library’s internet and technology resources.

 

Protect Your Data
The RPL wireless network is unsecured. You may need to change firewall or privacy settings in order to connect. The library accepts no responsibility for damage due to viruses or malware. Wireless users concerned about privacy and security should use encrypted connections such as those provided by SSL (URLs beginning with https://) or VPN software.

 

Protect Your Hardware
The library does not accept responsibility for stolen equipment. The library is a public area, please don’t leave your laptop or personal belongings unattended.

Printing

Printers & photocopiers are available in all branches. Please see a staff member if you have difficulties connecting.

Cost to Print / Photocopy: $.15 per page for single-sided, $.30 for double-sided (Black & White).
Cost to Print / Photocopy: $.40 per page for single-sided, $.80 for double-sided (Colour).

  • Remote printing for pickup is available at every branch.
  • All printing and photocopying must be done on the library’s paper.
  • Billing on debit and credit transactions will appear as from SH Vending – Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Instructions for Remote Printing

 

From your computer
Send your print job to the Library printers from your computer.

  1. From your browser, go to https://www.yourlibrary.ca/print/ or https://www.yourlibrary.ca/computer-internet-printing/print/ or directly to https://tbs.eprintit.com/portal/#/ppl/upload/yourlibraryca
  2. At the top of the page is the list of supported file types, cost per page, and max file size
  3. Click “Select File” button and browse to the files you want to print or simply drag and drop your files to the “Select File” box. ***Note: password protected documents cannot be processed
  4. For each uploaded document, make the following selections: number of copies, B&W/Color, one sided/two sided, paper size, layout, and page range
  5. Confirm estimated job cost is shown at the bottom of this section
  6. Under “User Info” in the Required field, type in your name or library card number
  7. Enter an email address for receipt of submission in the Optional field. ***Note: SMS or text message receipt does not work for Canadian carriers
  8. Click Submit. Make sure you get a pop-up confirming “Job submission successful!”
  9. You will also receive a confirmation email from no-reply@eprintitservice.com
  10. Your print job will be queued for 24 hours. Visit any of the four Richmond Public Library branches to print out your document

From your email
To print an email and/or attachment, simply forward your email to:
B&W Printer: tbs-yourlibraryca-bw@eprintitservice.com
Color Printer: tbs-yourlibraryca-color@eprintitservice.com

From your smartphone or tablet
Send your print job to the library printers from your smartphone or tablet.

  1. Download the Public Print Locations app
    iOS: https://apps.apple.com/ua/app/public-print-locations/id1181041135
    Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eprintit.eprint.ppl.client
  2. Open the app, to link an internet email account, tab on the E-mail icon and follow onscreen instructions
  3. To link Office 365 or cloud storage account for direct access, simply tab on the gear icon on the upper right corner and tick the appropriate boxes and follow the onscreen instructions
  4. To print pictures or files on your device, tab the desire icon and follow the onscreen instructions
  5. Use the Nearby or Map tab to select any of the four Richmond Public Library locations. Note that it makes no difference which location you select. Your job can be collected at any of the four library branches.
  6. Choose number of copies, pages, B&W or Colour, etc. then enter your name or library card number in the User Information field
  7. Tab on “Print”
  8. A confirmation “Done” will appear at the top of the app along with the Release code (what you entered in User Information field above)
  9. Visit the any of the 4 library branches to print out your document. Your print job will be queued for 24 hours
